Is a longer focal length better for a telescope?

im currently looking for a new telescope, one for deep space like a reflector, and i noticed the celestron astromaster 114eq has a focal length of 1000mm while the 130eq has a focal length of just 650mm. how does this effect what I see? is the longer focal length better? thanks.
