Do i set up my ipod touch with a dock to blast music for my sweet 16? does it work like that?

I'm having a sweet 16 and im not getting a dj. my cousin said i can just use my ipod touch and connect it to something, which will make the music play loud. if i connect it to a dock, wouldn't it not be really loud? im having around 40+ in my party.
